COLOMBO (News1st): The proposal to provide military training to individuals above the age of 18 is not realistic, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, an opposition lawmaker has said. "Let's assume training is provided to everyone between the ages of 18 and 26," Fonseka, a former army commander said on Thursday. He pointed out that approximately 3.5 million Sri Lankans fall under this category. "If military training is to be provided to 3.5 million individuals, it will cost the government 75 billion rupees," the Samagi Jana Balawegaya parliamentarian noted. Public Security minister Sarath Weerasekara had recently proposed to provide military training to individuals above the age of 18.
