Expressway Checkpoints to be manned by Sri Lanka Police

Colombo (News 1st); All exits and entry points on Expressways in the Western Province are manned by Sri Lanka Police with additional checkpoints.

Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana speaking to News 1st said no one will be allowed to enter the expressway, except for exceptional circumstances.

He said if anyone wishes to enter the expressway from the Southern Province, one can only travel to the Kurundugahahetekma Interchange.

On Thursday (29), heavy traffic was reported along the expressway ahead of the quarantine curfew which came into effect covering the entire Western Province.

Sri Lanka Police urged the general public to refrain from violating the quarantine curfew and attempting to leave or enter the Western Province.

He said permission will only be granted for personnel attached to essential services to travel, under exceptional circumstances.
