CCD permitted to record statement from death-row convict Ex-DIG Vass Gunawardena

Colombo (News 1st); The Gampaha Magistrate's Court ordered the Superintendent of the Welikada Prison to permit the Colombo Crimes Division to record a statement from Ex-DIG Vass Gunawardena, who is currently on death row.
The order was made by Gampaha Magistrate Manjula Karunaratne when the case filed against Ex-Director of the CID Shani Abeysekera for providing false evidence was taken up on Thursday (17).
Ex-Director of the CID Shani Abeysekera, Ambilitiya Police Sub-Inspector Mohana Mendis and Retired Sub-Inspector Nawaratne Premathilake, who were arrested and remanded on the charges of fabricating false evidence and misleading courts, were further remanded to the 02nd of October.
The Superintendent of the Mahara Prison was also ordered by the court to permit the Colombo Crimes Division to record a statement from Nawaratne Premathilake, the 04th suspects in the case who was remanded after surrendering to court.
The order was made following a request produced by ASP Neville De Silva of the Colombo Crimes Division.
