Navy arrests 18 Indian fishermen for poaching in northern territorial waters

Colombo (News 1st): Sri Lanka Navy apprehended 18 Indian fishermen who were engaged in illegal fishing in the northern territorial waters of Sri Lanka. The Indian poachers were caught 16 nautical miles west of the Point Pedro lighthouse during a naval patrol. Three dhows used by them were taken into naval custody. The apprehended Indian fishermen and dhows were brought to SLNS Uthtara in Jaffna. After the fishermen underwent a basic medical check-up they were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries, Jaffna for future legal action.
