71st National Day celebrations set to begin

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Today marks the 71st National Day celebrations of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. Celebrations to mark this day will be held at the Galle Face Green this morning (February 04) under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena. Newly elected President of the Maldives, Ibrahim Solih who arrived in the island last morning (February 03) will be the guest of honour today. A special traffic plan has also been put in place, in line with today's National day parade. Thereby the road from Colpetty junction to Lotus Roundabout will be closed from 5 a.m today (February 04). The Police request motorists to use alternative routes to avoid any inconvenience. Media Spokesperson of Police SP Ruwan Gunesekara said that vehicles entering Colombo via Colpetty should turn right from the Colpetty junction, while vehicles leaving Colombo can utilize Olcott Mawatha, Panchikawaththa and Maradana to exit Colombo.
