Reuters- Skipper Yann Guichard and his crew on the trimaran Spindrift were celebrating on Monday (January 21) after breaking their own Jules Verne race record time to the equator. The huge vessel set off on Wednesday (January 16) from the start line off Ushant in the Atlantic Ocean and crossed the equator four days 19 hours and 57 minutes later, shattering the record of four days 21 hours 45 minutes they set in 2015. The crewed round the world sailing record has been held since 2017 by Francis Joyon, who completed the non-stop course in 40 days 23 hours 30 minutes in Idec Sport in 2017. Idec Sport was about 23 hours further back at the same point meaning Spindrift is ahead of the clock in the round the globe race.
