BASL calls on Government for more staff

Colombo (News1st): Following a unanimous decision made by the Bar Council, the Bar Association of Sri Lanka is expected to write to President Maithripala Sirisena and the Constitutional Council urging that judicial appointment to fill vacancies in the Apex Courts be made as quickly as possible. Quoting the Secretary of the BASL Kaushalya Nawaratne, the Ceylon Today reported that the BASL will be sending the letter in the course of the first week of January 2019. He said "Our concern is to ensure that procedure and process is not disturbed. Therefore it is a must that the cadre is put in place in the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal." However, when News1st spoke to the President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka U.R. De Silva, he said that their stance on this matter will be confirmed and communicated on Monday.
