Families in Thalawakale evacuated due to landslide threats

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Several families living near the Great Western Estate in Thalawakale have been evacuated to safer areas over concerns of possible landslides. News 1st correspondent of the area said they were temporarily relocated to a Hindu temple in the estate. The Meteorology Department stated that due to the low-level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, heavy rain with strong winds would continue over the island during the next few days. Heavy rainfall of 150 mm is expected in the North-Central, Central and Uva provinces, while 100 mm rainfall is expected in the other parts of the island.
