Colombo (News 1st) - An event was held on Friday (September 21) to celebrate diplomatic relations established between Sri Lanka and Seychelles. At the reception, President Maithripala Sirisena was formally invited to tour the country of Seychelles by the President of Seychelles. High Commissioner of Seychelles Conrad Mederic addressing the event stated that during the Seychelles President's visit to Sri Lanka in 2017, the President had expressed their need for Sri Lanka's cooperation in trade and commerce of agricultural products. The High Commissioner then stated that they are optimistic that a similar exchange will result through the upcoming tour of Seychelles by President Maithripala Sirisena next month. Minister of Tourism Development & Christian Religious Affairs, John Amaratunga addressing the event added that the opening of a Bank of Ceylon and the opening of a Sri Lankan hospital branch in Seychelles has enabled Sri Lanka to take the banking and health sector service to the high end of Seychelles.
