Fake monk arrested for defrauding 80 million

COLOMBO (News 1st) - A person who impersonated a monk was arrested in Ahungalla for defrauding over Rs 80 million. He was arrested while in hiding in a hotel in Ahungalla. Rs 10.8 million, jewelry worth Rs 265,000, a watch worth Rs 15,000 and several mobile phones were recovered by the police in his possession. In addition a jeep worth Rs. 7 million was also seized by the police. It was revealed that the arrested suspect had impersonated a Professor at a Canadian University and had promised to provide employment in Canada. The Police stated that the suspect had defrauded cash from 150 persons from several areas in the country including Ahungalle, Badulla, Wellawaya, Bandarawela, Ginigathhena, Avissawella, and Weligama.
