New elections committee for the SLC

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Deputy solicitor general Sumitha Dharamawardena told the Court of Appeal today that the Secretary to the Ministry of sports had informed him that steps would be taken to appoint a new elections committee and hold the elections of SLC. Dharmawardena informed the court of appeal when a petition filed by former secretary to the SLC Nishantha Ranathunga against the candidacy of the current chairman Thilanga Sumithipala at the SLC elections due to be held on the 31st of May was taken up for consideration today (June 4). The Bench comprising of the Chairman of the Court of appeal P. Padman Surasena and Justice Arjun Obeyasekara ordered the respondents to file objections on the 3rd of September.
