Government defectors attend the SLFP May day Rally

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Sri Lanka Freedom Party's May Day rally was held in Chenkalady, Batticaloa today (May 7) under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena. The theme of this year's rally was 'Labour Power for National Unity'. The rally commenced with processions held by electorate organizers, party activists and representatives of Trade Unions affiliated to the SLFP. MPs Dayasiri Jayasekara, Thilanga Sumathipala, and Dilan Perera who recently defected from the government also arrived at the venue of the May Day rally. However, they left the premises shortly after the rally commenced. SLFP Treasurer S.B. Dissanayake, who was also among the group that defected from the government, participated in the May Day rally. General Secretary of the UPFA, Min. Mahinda Amaraweera addressing the rally said that the future of the SLFP would not rely on the elephant or the flower bud.
