NBRO investigating landslide risks along Badulla - Ratnapura road

Colombo (News1st) - The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has begun investigations into the threat of landslides in areas along the Badulla - Ratnapura main road. Senior Geologist at the NBRO's landslides studies unit, Dr. Gamini Jayatissa noted that an officer has been deployed to the area to monitor for signs of possible landslides. The Badulla - Ginigalla road which was closed off for motor traffic yesterday (May 1st) due to the threat of possible landslides, remains closed. Asst. Director of the Badulla District Disaster Management Center (DMC) E.L.M. Udaya Kumara noted that the Haldumulla and Walhaputhenna areas have been identified as landslide-prone areas.
