Colombo (News1st) - A special traffic plan will be in place in Colombo today due to the Vesak celebrations. Police media spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara noted that 3,000 police officers have been deployed to maintain peace and security during this period.
According to the police, the special traffic plan will come into effect from 7pm tonight (April 29th). This will restrict the flow of motor traffic in Slave Island, Sir James Peiris Mawatha, Sri Utharananda Mawatha, Braybrooke Street, Dawson Street and Wijeyarama Mawatha. The police noted that these roads may at times be completely closed for motor traffic.
Meanwhile, the Police noted that special car parks have been set up in Slave Island, Vauxhall Street, Union Place, Staple street and Muttiah road. Similar locations have also been set up in the Cinnamon gardens area, Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha, Marcus Fernando Mawatha, Malalasekara Mawatha, Longdon Place and the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute.
A number of other car parks have been set up by the Police along the Galle Road close to Colpetty and in the borella and Grandpass areas as well.
